FAQ

Q: Do I need to buy any equipment?

A: Nope, all equipment (a paddle and PFD) is provided. Some paddlers do decide to purchase their own paddle and PFD because they are nicer to use. However, we only recommend this if you feel that you are invested into dragon boat. Depending on what type of paddle you purchase, it can range from about $70 (wood paddles) to $300+ (carbon fiber paddles). PFDs usually range around $80 to $120.

Q: Are weekly practices mandatory?

A: Weekly practice is not mandatory. We understand that as students we are pretty busy with school and other priorities so don't worry if you are not able to attend all practices. Although, we would love to have you come out as often as you can! This helps you get to know your teammates more and get more time to practice on the water.

Q: I do not have any experience at all, does that matter?

A: Nope, not at all! We welcome anyone even if you have no athletic experience at all. As long as you're enthusiastic about learning a new sport, that's all that matters! Some of our veteran paddlers had never participated in any sport prior to dragon boat so don't worry about the lack of experience. We'll get you up to speed in no time!

Q: Is there carpool?

A: Yes! Carpool is based entirely on our members who volunteer to drive. We simply ask that if you plan to attend practice to please fill up the Practice Logistics form so that we can account for you. Carpool groups will then be formed and posted on the FB page listing who your driver (make sure to join if you haven't already done so!). Additionally, if you can assist with carpool that would be extremely appreciated! You will be crowned carpool king or queen ❤️

Q: Do I need to know how to swim?

A: No, you do not need to know how to swim. That's why we wear PFDs! However, knowing how to swim may make you feel more comfortable out on the water.
